What can you communicate in two seconds?
Ok, technically this is probably part of the “focus group research” conversation, but this exercise has been so successful across so many categories that it earned its own tab.
Imagine you've got a new product or prototype in development. This approach replicates the first quick glimpse that people will give your new product when it launches. What do the shape, the colors, the materials, the text and the overall vibe all convey? Do they get it?
Since a few blinks is all people get to view advertising and packaging on shelf, this approach yields insight into the power of those critical downline moves as well.
What are the semiotic cues conveyed in that two second glimpse? In what ways is the emotion and the character of the product or brand revealed? You’d be amazed how much you can learn with so little time. In reality, it’s all the time you really have.
